CHARACTER BUILDING - Bartlett BSc Architecture Unit 4 - Luke Pearson and Ana Monrabal Cook

‘Talent is developed in quiet places; Character in the full current of life’ Goethe

Unit 4 suggests architectures that exist in the full current of life, “Architectures of Character”. We wish to investigate both the subtleties of culture and the wilful glee of architectures unrestrained by “good taste”. We embrace the complex relationship between Character and context, action and reaction, and the development of visual languages that express this dialogue between them.

This year Unit 4 visted Lanzarote and Tenerife in order to engage with an architecture of Cultural Currency - taking the wild landscapes, edited architectures and historical factions as our stimulus.

For the Academic Year 2009/10 Unit 4 graduating third year students received the following prizes:

Nicholas Elias - Donaldson Medal for best work in year; Fitzroy Robinson prize for "best drawings or models in the year"; 2010 Bartlett Bronze Medal nominee.

Nicholas Blomstrand - History and Theory Prize for "distinguished work in History and Theory".
